hagebau – Handelsgesellschaft für Baustoffe mbH & Co. KG – is a great success story.
1964: 34 building material dealers founded the hagebau group. Today, the cooperative comprises around 370 medium-sized, legally independent companies in the B2C and B2B sectors. More than 1,700 retail outlets in eight European countries (Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain) are affiliated with the group, making it one of the largest players in Europe.

hagebau EH (retail)

hagebau EH is the leading cooperative in the DIY and garden center retail sector. It oversees the hagebaumarkt (DIY stores), WERKERS WELT (specialist stores), and FLORALAND (garden centers) brands, supporting nearly 600 stores in Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg. With gross sales of €3.099 billion (2018), hagebau EH ranks among the top three in its sector in Germany.

Under the hagebaumarkt brand, hagebau EH has developed a modern system of services and goods for the operation of DIY stores with garden centers. A common visual identity in the market, organization, and shared merchandise and range management are the pillars of the franchise system.

WERKERS WELT

The WERKERS WELT concept for small retail spaces meets local demand in both urban and rural areas. Around 80% of end customers come from the retail sector, with 20% coming from the wholesale sector. The core product range comprises hardware, tools, occupational safety, fittings, home security, sanitary ware, paints, varnishes, gardening, electrical installation, and light bulbs. With this brand, hagebau EH is the market leader in Germany.

FLORALAND

FLORALAND is hagebau EH's modular garden center concept. The concept brings together six highly specialized areas: pet supplies, garden furniture, power tools, pressure-treated wood, arts and crafts, and plants.

1964

Foundation of hagebau Soltau (Handelsgesellschaft für Baustoffe mbH & Co. KG)

1979

The opening of the first hagebaumarkt store marks hagebau's successful entry into the DIY sector.

1995

hagebau expands its business to Austria. In the early 1990s, hagebau created the first specialization modules for wholesale trade.

2000

Together with the Mousquetaires Group, hagebau created the international alliance A.R.E.N.A. 

2007

hagebau launches its online business with a 300-page catalog, “hagebau direkt,” and an online store at www.hagebau.de. This new business is run by baumarkt direkt GmbH & Co. KG, in which hagebau has held a stake since March 1, 2007.

2008

The website www.hagebau.de wins the award for “Best Online Shop of the Year 2008.”

2013

hagebau launches the first WERKERS WELT (the world of DIY), a concept aimed at small retail outlets.

2014

The central warehouses in Neumünster, Schleinitz, Westerkappeln, Herten, and Burgau are renamed hagebau Logistik.

The company celebrates an important anniversary: 50 years of hagebau !

2015

Spanish partners join hagebau for the first time.

2016

The first Dutch partner joins hagebau.

The 100th Werkers Welt store opens its doors.

2017

Belgian partners join hagebau.

The 333rd hagebaumarkt store opens.

2019

hagebau launches hagebau connect, the first independent cross-channel business model.
